The University of Rwanda Library Services (URLS) was founded in 2013 when seven publicly funded institutions were merged to form the University of Rwanda. Today, it stands as the premier academic library in the country, committed to providing the highest level of service, access, and instruction that meet the curricular, research, professional, intellectual, creative, and personal needs of the University community.
URLS aspires to grow into one of the top academic research libraries on the African continent, fostering knowledge creation and dissemination through innovative services and collections.

Founding of the National University of Rwanda library in Butare (now Huye)
Establishment of the Institute of Agriculture library in Busogo
Creation of Kigali Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) library
Merger of seven public institutions to form the University of Rwanda, creating a unified library system
